Shadow Self-portrait at Upheaval Dome, Canyonlands, UT
You may have noticed, I take a lot of pictures. I’m addicted to this 3-pound weight always hanging around my neck. If I’m outside, it’s with me and I’m always using it, come rain, shine or snow, and in all types of light.
At certain times of day, especially in the hour before sunset, keeping your shadow out of the frame becomes impossible. To hell with it; I wave and keep shooting. Here are a few of my favorite recent shadow-self portraits from the 4 Corners states:

Wilding Horses, NM

Goblin Valley, Utah

Kite Lake Campsite, Fairplay, CO

Scarp Ridge, Crested Butte, CO

Havasu Creek Meets the Colorado, Grand Canyon, AZ

That looks like an apparition of the Virgin Mary appearing at Goosnecks.
What a fun way to get yourself into the photos! Love it!
What a great idea for pictures! all wonderful shots. I’m curious why there is barbed wire around the BLM watering tank?
To keep the cattle from climbing into the tank! They make enough of a mess as it is.
Never thought of that! Thanks
Fun stuff! Great way to capture the moment:)
I found it funny that you are waving in these photos…lol…and DON’T stop taking pics, they are great and add so much to ur posts…..
Well Done!
I especially like the one on the horse 🙂
Thanks 🙂 What a great idea—makes for an interesting series! Love the one of your shadow being spooked by the golbin’s!
Thanks! That’s one of my favorites. If I ever have a wall to hang it on, I’ll definitely frame it!
Brilliant! Loved it!
