Happy Long Weekend everybody! I hope you’re all getting out and seeing more of the world today! I am visiting old friends and scheming some epic fall adventures on the Appalachian Trail.
This weekend, over a tableful of AT maps, I got my one friend – a former AT backpacker, turned stressed out urbanite – to pledge to hike 100 miles before in his 30th birthday in January. I’ll match his pledge, and raise the bar, by hiking 500 miles before New Years.
Anybody care to join us? Set your own mileage – make it challenging but attainable, say 5 to 10 miles a week between now and New Years! I usually average 25 miles a week or around 100 a month. If you out hike me, I’ll send you a print! M 🙂
You could use the Great Dane as a pack animal on the trail…
THIS OLD DOG CAN’T WAIT, NEW ADVENTER YEA!!!. KEEP ON ROAD TRIPPING MARY. GARY
Cant wait to start logging miles! Thanks for getting us organized!
What an amazing goal you have here ! Have a wonderful time in the AT, my back yard. Will be in Shenandoah in 6 weeks to hike Old Rag Mountain. Have you done that yet? I have a post buried in my blog if you want to check it out. Bella
Just returned from backpacking to Mora Flats in the Pecos Wilderness. Can I count that 7 miles as a starter here? I will be getting in a few good hikes before January, but nothing like what you do! Good for you – you are an inspiration to all of us.
I am just completing 100 hikes in 12 months – I have 8 more to do by September 30th. And next year’s goal is 500 miles in a year – hiking, walking, biking, etc. I LOVE the idea of a challenge – adds another layer of fun and keeps me focused. No chance of slacking off – I have a goal to reach!
